Cathay Pacific

Flight

SUMMARY

Roy Farrell and Sydney de Kantzow were two former Air Force pilots and they were known for flying “The Hump” over the Himalayas. In 1946, they had the idea to fly much-needed goods from Australia into post-war China. From there Cathay Pacific was born, an airline fueled by its founder’ passion for flying and love of the region. The name “Cathay Pacific” originated from Roy Farrell’s sense of ambition-that the new airline would one day cross the vast Pacific Ocean from China. Thirty years later, this progressive thinking and optimism was proven right with their first transpacific flight.
